The Four Days' Battle (Monck) took place (well, ended) just off Kingsgate Bay in Broadstairs. What a sight it must have been - massive fleets involved as you say.
It is something I want to do a proper read through on. A while back three of us were going to record some podcasts on the Anglo-Dutch Wars and I started reading generally about it but it is really interesting!

As far as I can tell the first naming committee came into effect after the First World War and previous to that it had been fueled by patriotic throw backs to heroes and events but I'm not 100% on that. Definitely a rabbit hole I'll have a look at
Fascinating group of people, another "admiral" class. Might want to add that Pellew was made Viscount Exmouth, otherwise it's a bit confusing.
