Christmas at Chatham
Just a short post to say Happy Christmas to everyone who follows my nonsensical writings and I hope you are having a wonderful time with whatever you are doing and here are a few pictures from the IWM photo archive of Christmas in Chatham…
Here follows three photographs taken in November 1940 at the Royal Navy Barracks (HMS Pembroke) in Chatham where there was a tradtion that the Officer in charge of Messing should pour out the rum for the Christmas pudding.
Apparently there was another tradition where the Chief Cook should be chaired by Seamen with puddings.
© IWM (A 2242) The Christmas pudding is being mixed by the Chief cook and the Paymaster Commander in charge of messing at the barracks who is pouring out the rum. 2400lbs of Christmas pudding was made for the barracks.
